Can an RNY be reversed?

Well yes it is reversible. Its realtively dangerous and complex.Let alone expensive and not usually covered by insurance. I see your surgery was scheduled for July 2. Its normal for a new post op to be depressed right about now. You begin feeling better than wham, the last of the anthestics leave your system and folks get depressed. This happens to many wls patients so your normal. Just give it some time, and you will feel better. This situation gets posted all the time.

Sandra it will get better. Trust everyone who tells you that. I thought I was going to die the first month. I was so miserable and depressed. Please read my profile. I am at 12 weeks now and I feel great, I have more energy I can just about eat anything but bread and sugar. So please give yourself time to heal it will get better.

It can, but it is apparently a terrible process and highly NOT recommended. If you are going thru that depressed stage thinking you've made a colossal mistake, believe me, a lot of us have been there. I was extremely depressed for a short time right after surgery. Recovery was not easy for me and somehow it seemed that I hadn't quite thought the whole thing through enough ... and made the wrong choice. I had that nagging feeling of, "Oh my goodness, I have really screwed up big time! What was I thinking?" Thank goodness that it only lasted a short while and my mood got better as my body got better and my eating got better. I also understand that a lot of people take antidepressants during this time and it helps tremendously. So if you are thinking you've really made a mistake and that was the purpose in your question, just give yourself some time ... you will adjust and you will be okay and one day you will wake up and say, "Thank goodness I did this!"

I am going through this same thing right now. I am a little over 1 month post op and I recently posted the same question. I am down 35 pounds but honestly that doesnt mean much to me at this time. i am really hungry for the foods I used to eat, you realize you lost your best friend(food). I used to think that people where nuts when they posted that they lost the best friend which was the food. It is getting better day by day. I still think about the reversal as an option but I am accualy starting to think of one posative thing from this surgery, at least I am not eating my way to a heart attach any more. It took me a month to figure that out, so one day something positive will pop in to your head. Hang in there...

To Sandra and Dani~~ You should look at the RNY as non-revirisible when going into this. Most people should know that this type of surgery is for ever, that going into this you have to change your lifestyle and eating habits. If you think you can't at this time, then maybe surgery isn't for you. Again, I'm not saying Gastric bypass is not reverisible, but it should thought as this is forever, no going back. Doctors can in emergancy situations revirse the RNY. Sandra~~ If your looking into revirisble gastric bypass, check out the "Lap Band" or the "VBG". The "Lap Band" is pretty new and the "VBG" has been, I believe around for about the same time the RNY, 20 years. Good Luck to you Sandra to whatever you choose to do ;) Dani good luck to you as well ;)
