Question:
Does anyone know if there's a WLS support group in the Utica/Syracuse, NY area?
Also, I'd be looking a WLS-experinced therapist for some one-on-one help. I ask b/c I may be moving up to the area. I plan to keep my surgeon here in North Jersey for the follow-ups; I'll only have to make the trip down (about 250 miles or so) like once a year or so. Or do you think I should find a surgeon more local up there? ____But please someone answer about the support group and therapist. I'm really stressing out about this possible move and the effect (negative?) it may have on the success of my surgery. TIA. — [Anonymous] (posted on July 13, 2001)

I live in the Syracuse area. A friend of mine and I are going to the
support group next Friday. The meetings are the third Friday of the month.
This will be my first support group meeting. I will get you all the
information. I am calling my friend sometime today. You can either e-mail
me or send me your e-mail address and I will give you the details. When
are you planning to move here? My surgeon is in Auburn and he has been
performing surgeries for 39 years and WLS for 21 years with one fatality.
If you are interested in him, I will give you his name and number. I hope
this helps. Mary

I go to the Surgical Bariatric Center in Syracuse. There are support groups
at the church next door. This month they are August 12, at 10am-12pm, then
another August 19th at7pm-9pm , and then one August 26th at 10am-12pm. Then
you can call the office for them every month at 464-9852.
