Question:
Does all the testing the internist do preop count towards the surgery?

Hi, Everyone. I'm totally confused. I went to the internist yesterday (7-7-01) and he did xrays, bloodwork, asthma tests, urine,an EKG and a physical. Everything came back fine except my blood pressure was high. Bloodworks not back yet. Question, Was that the Preop testing that everyone has been talking about? He also said that the insurance company wanted me to be tested for Sleep Apnea. Well, I was not aware that he had spoken to the insurance company. Does this mean that they submit all this stuff along with the request for approval at the same time. (My paperwork hasn't been submitted yet because the lady that does it has been on vacation. She'll be back on the 9th. The internist said that the sleep study will be done within 2 wks. The nurse said that all this stuff needed to be done before I could have surgery. I understand that but will the same tests be required to be done again? I've read that bloodwork and other tests must be done 1 month before surgery or you'd have to redo them. Is this true? The internist asked me when my surgery was scheduled. I told him that it hadn't been yet. Please someone try and tell me what all this stuff means. Does it mean that my surgery could happen within that (month) period of time or what? What happens if we get an approval within 2 or 3 wks? Well, as I said I'm confused.    — Darline H. I can understand your confusion this all can be..but it looks to me that all the tests your doctor has u taking are what is required for insurance approval they are some of the same tests i have to take ..i too will have to do a sleep apnea test and i've recently had a ekg and a chest xray...so i wouldn't worry all this is towards getting you approved and it looks like you've got a lot done.....i wish u luck.
