I use Designer Protein natural flavor, and I usually mix mine with milk. I think the other posties may not use milk because of lactose intolerance. I don't normally drink a lot of milk, sometimes it doesn't agree with me, but for my protien drink it works great if I don't have time to make a smoothie.

I am still pre-op, but have been on my protein supplemenmts for about a month. I drink Pro Complex, vanilla. I find it goes down easiest if I mix with water and then pour over ice. It needs to be really cold for me to like it. And it's thinner or something. I tried it with milk, but it tasted too rich for me. (My hubby likes it with milk, though!) It's 55 grams of protein for one serving. Good luck to you.

Hi! I always drink protein drinks with milk but I don't need them much nowadays (I find I get enough protein from food alone - 80 gms/day). I know that others (RNY and DS) do not because of lactose intolerance. But, you can try soy milk, lactaid (this is what I initally used) and non-fat milk brands. This reaction to milk and other dairy products *may* be an immediate thing after surgery and not long-term lactose intolerance or it may be a true, lifelong lactose intolerance. I just used lactaid skim in shakes and whatnot and never experienced any problems. All the best, (lap DS with gallbladder removal, January 25, 2001)

Don't know about everyone else but I cannot drink milk anymore....makes me REALLY sick. I'm 13 months post-op and haven't been able to do dairy since my surgery.

I mix mine with barely 1/2 cup of skim milk... I can tolerate milk without any problems. I believe others cannot handle dairy post op. Also, you have to be aware that milk is converted to sugar and 1% milk is still high in calories. So by making a protein drink with 1% milk you possibly making a 300 to 400 calorie drink if you are using fruit. You have to try and make your protein drinks as low cal as possible...

Since surgery I don't tolerate milk very well (makes me sleepy) and it has a lot of fat and calories so I use Silk soy milk instead, way better for me and tastes just as good. Also, there is now a mocha flavor that is great mixed with the Carnation instant breakfast, a banana and ice mixed in the blender.

I'm 3 weeks post op and my surgeon has me milx milk with everything. Milk for my protein drink, milk in my cream of wheat, milk in my creamed soup etc. I am losing just fine and LOVE my milk so I am very happy I can tolerate it. If my weight loss is slower due to the milk, then so be it. Others incorporate their favourite foods into their plan, so do I....woohooo for milk......
