Question:
Do any of you use the OxyFlo machine by Brenda Dygraff?
Hi. I'm considering purchasing the OxyFlo machine by Brenda Dygraff, sold on HSN. I'm almost 5 weeks post-op and I STILL am unable to get myself out to my neighborhood park to walk due to my dizziness & lightheadedness, painful trapped gas, as well as my choking on the dust being kicked up by city workers digging up the park, remodeling. I know, 'cause I tried walking out there only to run home coughing to death. Yes, I know walking helps with the gas, and I know I can walk somewhere else, but I'm more afraid of passing out somewhere in the park or on the street. I live in a big city & you don't want to be caught off guard around strange people. I'm so scared of getting blood clots; my calves are starting to feel sore to the touch. With the OxyFlo, you lie on the floor or bed and put your heels on the machine and the machine gently shakes your legs, getting the blood flowing. It'll be on HSN on the 12th July. I think it looks like a good product, or do I have SUCKER written on my forehead? — lalasmommy (posted on June 23, 2001)

My "guess" is if you have'nt got a blood clot by now you
probally won't. Seems like your surgery was so long ago
that the risk would mostly be over???

I have no idea what the cost of this equipment would be, but I feel that
the money would be better spent on a treadmill. That way you can get the
exercise you need without dealing with the difficulties you are facing
outdoors. I would agree that your risk for blood clots has decreased
greatly since you are pretty far out from surgery. However, we will ALWAYS
need to exercise. Shelley

How about walking the track at your local YMCA? That would solve many of
your issues related to walking outside. For example, all of the workout
areas are moniotored by closed circuit television, including the parking
lot. If you need medical assistance, people could see that you are in
trouble and get you the help you need. YMCA facilities will typically give
people a one time guest pass for free so that you could try out their
facilities. For me, the monthly fee is worth the safety factor and it is
socially a nice environment as well. I like "water walking" in
the shallow pool as well. The water is bath water warm and is comforting to
sore joints. Members of the YMCA come in all shapes, sizes, and ages.

My doctor told me that if I didn't get enough water in, I would feel dizzy
and lightheaded. I don't know how much water you are getting in, but if
you aren't getting much it could be the cause of your dizzyness.
