Question:
Can someone help with these tests?
I went to a seminar and they handed out sheets. One sheet lists the tests I will need to get done. They are: laboratory tests, U.G.I., E.K.G., and pulse oximetry. Besides the E.K.G., does anyone know what the others are? Thanks! — camiam (posted on May 21, 2001)

My guess is the lab tests are bloodwork...not sure about the other
one...maybe an upper GI??

Camille,
I am a RN, and here is my explanation. The upper GI is an x-ray where you
do drink a substance (not always chalky depends on radiologist) and they
take x - rays to eval your upper GI (esophagus, stomach, sometimes into
small intestine). The pulse ox is merely a small machine being placed
normally on your finger (can use forehead) to evaluate the amount of oxygen
in your blood. The blood draw mentioned above is normal for an arterial
blood gas - could have been done to follow up on a suspicous Pulse ox.
Good Luck.
