Question:
Where can I find a clothing store for people who need a size 30/32?

Hi everyone, I am very ashamed to admit this, but I need a size 30/32 now. I need some help in finding some stores that accomodate such a larger size. Just to let you know I am in the begining process of getting wls. I have a whole year to wait before my first initial consultation and am very depressed about the long wait. I have researched wls for about a year now, and I know its for me. But the Dr.s here in Oregon have such long waits. I am also on medicaid, so I know it is going to be a very hard fight. My stats are: 5'5, 365lbs the last time I checked my bmi it was 62 but I think it is higher now. :( I also want to thank everyone for this wonderful site. I have learned so much on here. I have finally gotten enough courage to acually put my weight on the net. Yikes!! Tami F. — forlinestami (posted on May 19, 2001)

Tami, when I wore size 30/32 I went to PS (Plus Sizes Plus Savings). It was the only place I could find that had anything that would fit. Also, you could try getting hold of a Roeman's (spelling?) catalog. They are similar to Lane Bryant but I do believe the sizes go a little bit higher. I'm sure others will step in and help out with better answers. I remember well when I could no longer go to Lane Bryant because I was too big (they pretty much stop at size 28) and shopping in a department store was out of the question (except for Wal-Marts Just My Size collection - have you tried that to see if they go big enough?). Now, I can still no longer shop at Lane Bryant because everything there is too big, praise God! I wish you the best in your quest for WLS.

Tami-I know just what you are going through! I'm not sure about Oregon (I used to live there, but it's been awhile) but see if they have an Avenue store (their sizes go to 30/32) or a Catherine's (formerly PS Plus..their sizes go to 32/34). I know that you can order from Avenue.com online if there are no stores in your area. Also, check out the clothing exchange here on this site...alot of people have out grown these sizes and are willing to pass them on! Good Luck!

My favorite store right now is FASHION BUG!! Call information for their number - they have an 800 number - to see where there's one near you. Don't know if they have a website, I've never checked. They've got EVERYTHING in our sizes!! Nice clothes for weddings and stuff - and jeans! Good luck! Bobbi

There are two online places I was shopping before surgery: www.makingitbigonline.com and www.pluswoman.com. Both also have catalogs and plus woman sends fabric swatches. I was 5'5" 350 lbs. If you call them and tell them your measurements, they can tell you their size. Or you can use their online size charts. They have nice stuff.

I buy most of my clothes through Sears. They have a mail order catalog with sizes up to 6X. The catalog is called Women's View. They have pretty underwear, casual, dress, and night clothes to fit any size. They have a toll-free number and it takes about 1 week to get their catalog. The number is 1-800-944-1973 for the catalog and 1-800-944-0422 for customer service. You can charge your order, and have it shipped to your door. The only down side is that if you have to return something you have to mail it back instead of taking it to a local Sears store. Have fun shopping!

I just bought a pair of size 30 jeans from Avenue and I'm really happy with them. They are real jeans (no elastic) and they were 2 pairs for $49. Catherine's a few doors down had jeans with elastic that didn't fit me right for $41 per pair. Making it Big has beautiful clothes but because they are made by US workers from beautiful fabrics, they could also be called Making it Expensive. Finally, you should check out eBay. You can't try it on, but for shirts and dresses that's probably OK, and at the low prices, you might want to try your hand at pants too. eBay Women's Plus sizes: General category. Hope this helps!!

I can relate! I currently wear a 32/34. My favorite place by far to buy clothes is Ulla Popken. They have beautiful things, all well made and stylish, and at fairly reasonable prices. Their basics such as tees are very reasonably priced - around $20. They do have a few retail outlets, but I'm not sure where. You can order directly from their web site, or request a catalog (www.ullapopken.com). Most of their clothes are relaxed fit, and they always make a note if things are relaxed or slim fit. I've found that their shirts run very true to size, but their skirts and pants run a little large. I usually order a size smaller than usual in skirts. Another good place is justmysize.com, they have more on the web site than in Wal-Mart and they have excellent prices. Some of their things run a little small, but it may be me. I think their size 4x is 28/30, which is too small for me. Hope this helps!
