Question:
Is it safe for a woman to take Provera (to bring on a period) prior to surgery?
Have any of you ladies out there taken Provera in order to get a period just prior to surgery? My gyn wants me to have a period every month, & I don't get my period without provera. I'm overdue now so I started provera 2 days ago (1 ea. day for 10 days). Now a while ago I had a list of meds, such as asprin, to NOT take in the 2 weeks prior to surgery, but I can't find that darn list now. My surgery is on 5/21/01, about 2 1/2 weeks away, so I will be just finishing up the Provera during this 2-week time frame. Does anyone know if Provera is on this list of off-limit drugs? Also, I hadn't thought of this before, but wouldn't it be bad to be bleeding (period) before a surgery? I could've skipped this month's Provera treatment, but I DO NOT want to end up getting my period while in the hospital which I read is very common. — lalasmommy (posted on May 4, 2001)

My Gyn prescribe provera for me before I had surgery. But I didn't take it.
You may want to ask your surgeon. i didn't take it because I didn't want
anything in my system that should be before surgery. But my surgeon said it
was ok to take it after the surgery. Well i didn't need it after surgery
because My periods became normal. so I never took the meds.

My GYN put me on provera two weeks before surgery. I had my period at about
a week before and even had a very light one on the day of and after my
surgery. I had no problems. Hope this helps. Good Luck! Open RNY

surgery... while I was in the pre op area no less.. hahhaha... I wish you
