Question:
How long after surgery does the loss typically start to slow down?

Hey,all! I'm 7 months post op, and have just experienced a 2 month plateau. It finally broke, but it just about had me in the funny farm! I'm wondering if that's how it's going to be now, if it slows down to just a few pounds a month. I figure if I know this is pretty much how it's going to be, then I won't drive myself loony! My doctor gave me a year to lose 160 pounds, and I figure that'll still happen, but I just want to make sure this is normal at 7 months out. You guys have been so helpful to me in the past, I know you can set my mind at ease!! Thanx!!    — Danielle G. (posted on April 11, 2001)

I'm not sure what is "typical", but I'm 6 months post op, and for the last 2 months, I have only lost 5 lbs a month. My PCP seems ok with that...I'm not exactly wild about it, but I guess it's better then nothing. My surgeon wants me to lose 150-160 total, and I'm only down 77, so I'm beginning to doubt that I'll make that...at least not in a year.

I know exactly were you are coming from. I have lost 112lbs in the last 6 months. But for the last few months my weight has slowed down so much, it is not funny. One week, I may lose a few pounds, the next few I'm stuck. But a few pounds per month is better than nothing. I calculate my rate of weight loss and I should lose a mininum of 170 lbs. Hopefully in the next 6 months, I'll be there. One thing I've started doing is write down everything I'm eating to make sure I'm not eating too much or too little.
