Has anyone heard of a Dr. Jawad in Ocala, Florida who does the surgery LAP? If you do not have your insurance approval yet, how do you go about getting an appointment with the surgeon? — K. B. (posted on April 10, 2001)

I looked this doctor up in our database and it seems that none of his
patients have listed him here on AMOS but I also went to ASBS.org and he is
listed as a member of that group. That is a good thing as I do feel that if
a surgeon is truly interested in bariatric surgery he will be a member of
the professional group recognized for it's commitment and dedication to
WLS. I went to the State of Florida medial board, too, and he is licensed
and in good standing so you might want to call his office and ask if they
can give you the names of WLS clients with whom you could speak and ask the
staff exactly what type of surgery the doctor offers and approaches he
utilizes. I can tell you that he is not listed as a physician who offers
the DS so that will be a limiting factor. Good luck in your quest for a new
life. I wound up traveling outside the state of Florida in order to have
the type of surgery I wanted rather than what was just only available in
Florida. There are lots of sources for infomation and the best thng you can
do is research everything you can and get lots of opinions!!!! You can not
make an informed decision if you are not informed. :-) Also check out
duodenalswitch.com and ASBS.org

If you are still looking I just had my surgery done, lap rny w/Jr Jawad.
He is a great doctor, very honest and upfront and willing to discuss any
questions or concerns. I was so glad to find him. I first went to see him
in July and my surgery was in Sept. Not a very long wait at all compared to
the other doctors in fl who do lap.
