Question:
Should my medical group refer me out of network, due to lack of contract?

My medical group does not have a contract withany Bariartic Surgeon at this time. I have requested a referral to Dr. Felix out of the Group, but the Chief Surgeon wants to go to Valley Surgical who has an extensive patient load. My request is pending, within the group. If they do authorize it, it that covered under my HMO since it is not a self referral. THis insurance stuff is confusing and Pacificare does not explain it any better.    — Cheryl C.
