Question:
If by chance I do start my period in the hospital after surgery...can I use a tampon?
This may sound like a really stupid question..but I really do need to know. My periods are usually really heavy and I have to double up. Pads and Tampons..is this a problem after surgery??? — [Anonymous] (posted on March 21, 2001)

This happened to me. As far as I know, you can use tampons and/or pads if
you need both. I usually use tampons, but had to use pads in the hospital.
This was because with 50+ staples in my belly, I couldn't quite reach far
enough to insert a tampon without extreme pain ... and I was not about to
ask a nurse or anyone else to do this for me! I used the big maternity
pads that the hospital provided (I just put them between my legs and they
stayed there ... trust me, I wasn't moving much at first!). They also put
cloth pads in my bedding in case of accidents. Good luck!

I used them with no problem.

I bought both with me to the hospital. I used the pads while there and the
tampons when I went home two days later.
