Question:
What is the deal with STRAWS?
I've heard that drinking through straws post-op is strictly prohibited by some docs, and that some post-ops use and actually prefer straws! What's the deal, AND WHY? Thanks! — Laurie L. (posted on March 2, 2001)

I totally prefer straws- I am 5 1/2 months poat-op and at forst I didn't
use them because I was afraid to drink to much at once, But then I learned
that I can't stretch my pouch with liquids, and It wasn't until I started
drinking my water with a straw that I was able to get my full 64oz in per
day. It definetly helps for me. Hop this helps

Straws can produce gas for some people. Not everyone keeps the straw in the
glass. For example, you might take out and stir the drink and things like
that. Gas can cause pain. Go by what the Dr. says and then speak with him.
I understand that after a few months(about 5)than straws are ok

I was told not to use straws and didn't until I was at a restaurant one day
and out of habit used the straw - I had no problems using it.
