Question:
Anyone having to stay on Prednisone post op having trouble losing?

I am about 10 weeks post-op. I've been doing all the right things, exercise, water, protein, etc., but I somehow developed pneumonia about a week and a half ago. I had managed to taper my steroids to 10 mg. post-op until then. Now, I'm back on high doses (although I've already tapered to 35 mg./day) and it seems like my appetite is back with a vengance! I was on IV steroids in the hospital, and I ALWAYS gain weight from them! I'm getting very frustrated. I feel like crying all the time, and then I get angry! I can't stand this @#$@ stuff. I was losing at an OK pace, 30 pounds in 2 months, but then stopped with the increase in prednisone. I try not to get worried about the number on the scale, but the prednisone is what got me into trouble in the first place, and now I'm worried that I'll NEVER get off the stuff and I'll never be able to lose a significant amount of weight. Before prednisone I was in the "normal" weight range, and since I've had to take steroids, I can't tell what normal is anymore. Please, if anyone has had experience with prednisone post-op and was still able to lose weight, let me know. I really need some support with this. Thanks - Maria    — Maria H.
