Question:
When can you use free weights after surgery?
I've seen answers to this from not to strenuous for 6 months to immediate action. If you wait 6 months, some lose so much, it seems like you'll never catch up....especially for post menopausal women. I know walking can be immediate, what about free weights more physical exercise? — Sharon B. (posted on February 4, 2001)

My surgeon said that training with weights could begin 3 months post-op.
So that is what I did. I had a proximal open RNY on October 12, 2000 and
have lost 80 lbs. I could not wait to start weight training because I am
afraid of hanging skin and I want to do all I can to tighten up.

I have only recently returned to the use of free weights and machines.
Unilke before I only use light weights now and work on reps. I allow my
body to tell me how far to go and I feel so much better. I am getting back
some muscle tone and feeling stronger.
