Question:
Can I use a tanning bed after WLS?
How long after open rny will I need to let the incision heal to get in the tanning bed? — robin C. (posted on January 18, 2001)

As soon as your comfortable enough to be able to turn on the bed
comfortably without your binder on. You still may have to roll out on all
fours and help yourself stand up with a nearby chair. Go for it.

Just my opinion here, but you may want to reconsider the use of the tanning
bed. As you lose weight, your skin will become saggy. TANNED skin is much
less resilient and less likely to "snap back" for you. Sagging
skin is almost impossible to avoid completely; but give yourself every
chance you can to keep your skin hydrated and ready for your new shape!

My doc warned me not to use a tanning bed for several months (6 I think),
because the scar tissue is so fresh it can easily burn, and leave a dark
mark (kind of the opposite of a light colored strech mark)
