Question:
Do the suppliments help you to lose weight faster
I've not used anything for a month or so, the stuff my doctor supplies makes me gag and retch. I know there are other kinds of protien suppliments, but I really don't know how vital they are to my weight loss. I'm very careful to get in as much protien through my diet. Do they make it inpill form? — Danielle G. (posted on December 13, 2000)

Yes, the protein supplements help your wt loss. They do a couple of things
for you. When mixed with water or sugar free beverage, you are getting
only calories you can use, no extra, no wasted. This is good protein now,
not Ensure or Carnation Instant Breakfast or Slim Fast. This is the stuff
body builders use and they want NO FAT on their bodies. The protein goes
right to the muscle, none to fat. You are maintainin muscle and encouraging
the fat to be what is lost. It nourishes you, so keeps all the organs
happy & humming along. Because you are well nourished, you will have
very few cravings once you get and maintain good protein levels. Food
protein cannot be digested without a stomach, so there is very little
absorption. I'd never count any more than 50%. Good protein supps are
pre-digested, so then we only need to worry about absorption, so we're
getting a higher grade of protein in a smaller volume in the most
absorbable form. Whey is #1 in availability to the body. Soy is #7 or so.
So, while you are eating a lot in foods, by the time you overstuff your
pouch or eat constantly, you've taken in a lot fats and/or sugars to try to
NET 60g. When you are using a good protein supp, you can get your 60g in
two 4oz drinks, and there are plenty of tasty ones out there with good
numbers.

I drank those nasty gross supplements for 5 months and decided this was not
the way I want to spend the rest of my life drinking those digusting
drinks. I eat well balanced meals, protein first, I still continue to lose
weight and I feel great. I have had no hair loss. I have a friend who
never drank them and the doctor told her it wasn't necessary. She is a
year and a half post op and has lost all her weight (150 lbs). The
calories in them to get 60 grams of protein was about 380 calories, I would
rather have 380 in food and something that tasted great then in something
that I didn't enjoy and dreaded drinking.
