Question:
Any problems going to sleep?
Before surgery I had no problem falling asleep 5-10 minutes after going to bed. Now I lay there sometimes for 2 hours before going to sleep. Gary — [Deactivated Member] (posted on November 30, 2000)

Gary- I understand this sleeping problem more than you can know. I had it
long before surgery. In my opinion you have more energy than your body has
been able to use during the day. I hate to exercise but it is the best way
to free this built up store. You will be able to find an output. In the
mean time don't just lay there beating yourself up on why you can't sleep
and find a book, project etc. Write a great novel away from the bedroom.
When you feel Mr Sandman tapping on your shoulder. Try the bed again. Good
luck from Sleepless in Alabama.

Hi Gary,
I read you profile. Congrads! You're doing great. I looks like you have
a wonderful, support wife which is critical at this point in recovery.
Regarding the sleeping problems, I had the same issue. My doctor didn't
give sleep meds because he said it was temporary. Instead, he suggested
2-3 teaspoons of liquid benadryl before bed. Worked like a charm. I did
it for a week and finally got back to a normal sleep pattern. As with
anything, please check with your own doctor first to see what he/she says.
Good luck!
