Question:
IS THIS A LACK OF SOMETHING?
I AM 61/2 WEEKS OPEN RYN AND THE PAST FEW DAYS I HAVE BEEN CARVING SALTY FOOD. IS THIS NORMAL? OR AM I LACKING SOMETHING IN MY DIET? I HAVE BEEN IN THE PAST A SALTY PERSON MORE THEN A SWEET. SO I HAVE BEEN IN THE PICKLES TRYING TO SATIFIED THAT WAY.BUT THE CHIPS ARE ENTERING MY THOUGHTS. AND LOVELY THE SPICY STUFF TOO. THANKS 40LBS GONE. — Cathy B. (posted on October 9, 2000)

Cathy, I get salt cravings too. Could be from all those bland liquids :)
And I eat lots of hot spicy pickles and peppers and maybe one or two olives
about 3 times a week. If you are craving chips, there are some good baked
chips on the market...or, instead of big bag, pick up one of those twenty
five cent bags (I think they hold like only 5 chips anyway). Nice thing
about WLS is that you are easily satisfied! Good Luck to you.

Oops...one thing I left out...if you are still on purees or soft foods,
this is going to have to wait a few weeks until your tummy is healed! Take
Care :)

I am almost a year post op and still get salt cravings; I have had them
since forever... I tend to have most of the cravings around my menstal
cycle; there are many things that will satisfiy your salt caving and still
be pretty good. There are many wonferful baked chips with salt; Ritz makes
a low fat baked cracker that I love; chicken soup can get pretty salty; as
for the spicey cravings---pre-op I couldn't even look at a spicey meal w/o
getting an upset stomach and now?? Lets just say I can't get enough of the
stuff!!! I love anything spicey, the hotter the better!! Spicey salsa's
can be really good on an egg... I love making myself a very small omlette
with some sliced turkey, ham or chicken, some grated cheese and put some
nice hot salsa on it... YUMM!!

That's all I crave! Not like a hunger, but my mouth wants the salt. I eat
dill pickles all the time and tomatoes with salt. I don't know if that is
bad or not, but it has to be better than craving a Hershey's chocolate bar,
right?

I, too, get the salty-something cravings (and the sweet-something cravings,
too)! I had three baby dill pickles yesterday, but was kind of concerned
because I've read and been told that pickles aren't a good snack. I guess
because they're full of salt...I don't know. Is it okay to eat pickles
several times a week? They WERE good!
