Question:
Is there a book or a chart that will teach one how to figure protein grams etc.?
I am trying to be prepared as possible for my life post-op. I generally try not to eat pre-packaged foods because of all of the chemicals and preservatives etc. How do you know how many grams of protein, carbs., etc. are in foods that you want to eat? I want to make the best, healthiest choices possible. — Linda B. (posted on September 18, 2000)

Recently, I posted the US Agriculture's website for nutritional
analysis...do a search for nutritional analysis on the Q&A page and it
will pop up with a hot link. This site will give you ALL the info, right
down to vite levels. Good Luck!

You can buy paperback books that list nothing but different foods and their
nutritional value - carbs, protein, fat, etc. If you live near a Giant
Food supermarket, they also have their own book in the stores that does the
same thing. I found both sources to be very handy.

Ijust got a fabulous book I heard about on the OSSG list. It's called The
Complete Book of Food Counts by Corinne T. Netzer. It is $7.50 and well
worth it.

If you go to www.cnet.com, there is a program you can hunt up called
DietWatch Diary. It is fantastic!!! You can download it onto your
computer for free and go online whenever you want answers to the questions
about the nutritional values of your foods because you enter the food into
the database.
