Question:
I just got insurance. How long should I wait before seeking surgery approval.
I sort of fuged on my weight when I filled out the appliction and do not want to get cancelled for asking for service as soon as they sign me up. — Lisa H. (posted on September 10, 2000)

The day my insurance started, March 1, 2000, I sent it my packet to the
doctors office for wls. Thirty days later I was approved and had a surgery
date. The only thing they asked me was if I had been to a doctor within
the past 12 months regarding weight loss (To see if it was a pre-existing
condition) I hadn't so I was approved. How much did you fudge on your
weight? If it was only 10 or 20 pounds I wouldn't worry. Every insurance
company is different though. Hope this helps and good luck!!

Hi Lisa, My name is Tonia. I too have just gotten insurance coverage with
Aetna us healthcare and I have only been covered one week and already got a
referral to see a surgeon. All I can say is try it and see. They will
only tell you yes or no. Good luck!!!!!

Hi, you're entitled to all the coverage under your policy the day it
becomes effective. If you are in a state that allows companies to impose
pre-existing conditions, you may have to wait, but my understanding is that
few companies are imposing those limitations now.
Move forward and see what happens. Keep us posted on your progress.
