Question:
I'm 7 weeks post op and food is not going down easily, especially breakfast.
Will I eventually be able to eat my 3 meals a day 4 - 5 ounces and keep them down. What has been the experience of those of you who are long term post ops (1 year or longer). I had proximal open RNY. Thanks, Cecilia — Cecilia M. (posted on September 5, 2000)

6 yrs post-op here. I'd guess you are eating WAY too much at one sitting.
We do 6 meals of 1-2 oz each. Then the pouch doesn't overstretch or push
the staple line. Also, since we supplement the protein completely, we dont'
have to try and stuff all that meat into an uncooperative pouch. The liquid
supplements are nearly completely absorbed and only 4 oz will do half the
requirement. Another 4 oz later will cover it. They mix with water or s/f
juices, so no added calories or sugar g, either. Then, you can still eat
tiny "safe" meals to preserve you pouch and staple line AND feel
satisfied in between meals. Grazing is bad, so don't start, but 3 big
meals will strech you out way quicker than you want to be. A tiny tasty
meal with no sugar or milk every 2 or 3 hours will make your head AND pouch
feel much better.

Cecilia, I had the exact same problems. Was very naseau in the morning for
about 3 hours. I had some flat gingerale to calm my tummy. I am 6 months
post op and am just now being able to eat meat like chicken, steak, etc.
It's very frustrating, but just remain patient. It seemed like at about 4
months it just kind of cleared up on it's own. I am still naseaus at times
and alot of things are just not appetizing to me. It makes it hard to get
the proper nutrition like you said, but just hang in there.
