Question:
What Kind Of Tests Will Be Done For The Pre-Admission Testing?
I am scheduled for my Pre-Admission Testing on September 7th,2000. And I was wondering what kind of tests will they do? I will have Dr. Schreiber, from Saint Vincent Charity Hospital, Cleveland, Ohio. And usually how long does it take to have all of the testing done? Also is it all done in one day? Thanks a lot everyone. Everyone is so supportive on this site. [email protected] — Georgia B. (posted on August 30, 2000)

Hi Georgia,
I just had all my pre-op testing done today (Aug 30). There were quite a
few of them but I got them all done within one day - it took about two
hours - but I tend to chat a lot with everyone.
First, I had an echocardiogram. It is an ultrasound of you heart. I had a
good chuckle when the technician said I was blessed with boobies - they
kept gettin' in the way. :o)
Then I went to have blood drawn. The nurse commented that I was having a
lot of blood work. She took about 8 or 9 test tubes of various sizes. I
know some was to type my blood & others were probably to test for
underlying things like hepatitis, & other stuff I am not sure of. I
also had to fill a cup for a urine sample (test for various infections).
Then they did an EKG. This is to monitor your heart rate I believe (But
not to sure). Then was the sample of blood from you artery. They use a
thin long needle for this it is not as bad as I heard. This is to test the
amount of various gases in your blood stream. The last thing was a chest
x-ray. If you want more info drop me a line. My surgery is on Friday Sept
8, 2000.
Best of Luck ....Tori

Each doctor has different protocol on preop tests... You doc should give
you a list.. My doctor was extremely thorough in his preop tests. The
respirtory tech even commented that even the heart surgery patients don't
have that much testing..... If you would like to see what I had (with
insurance codes) click here: <a
