Question:
Follow-up protein supplements

I went to the doctor today for a follow-up visit. I asked him about the protein supplements and why he doesn't suggest it. He says he prefers to 'mainstream' his patients. He says if I am feeling fine, and my labs are good, there is no reason for me to use them. He said that for totally distal, or those who have had the Duodenol Switch (don't quote me on the exact term), there is more of a need. So I guess I will heed his words for now...but just watch my labs etc. Thanks for all the info. I guess I have to make a choice, and I think I will wait and see.    — Carole C. Well, I feel that if you are looking to drop weight Protein is very important. I drink MYCOplex purchased from GNC. It has 42 grams of protein and taste wonderful!!!! Thick like a shake! That's just me.......

I know for me the protein drinks are needed as it is VERY hard to get in the required amt's of protein. I guess if you can get enough in with food that's great, but I find impossible.

I have been told by alot of post-ops that around the 4th month that you start to lose hair!! I know with the more protein you have the better off you will be when it comes your 4th month! I know I am not looking forward to that at all! So I make sure I take my vit. and plenty of protein!

I find it hard to get in my protein with just regular food. Remember proteins are the building blocks of the body, they're very important. You should take a shake or bar you like daily. There's a good one I take called pro-blend 55 but if you want to conserve calories then HealthSource from walgreens is great because it's only 100 calories for 20 grams of protein mixed with water. Good luck in whatever route you take.

I'm not disagreeing with your doctor, but I've personally found it very hard to get in all protein I need from food. I have no problem eating meats (including beef,) but I just don't feel like eating it 3 times a day. I'd rather have a protein shake and fruit for breakfast than eggs and bacon. Just quicker and more portable. Personal preference only, of course. I've gotten so into protein shakes in the morning and after my evening work outs. I ran out of Designer Protein this morning and forgot to pick some up on the way home from work. After working out, instead of just finding some else to drink before dinner, I drove all the way to GNC to get some (they were closed, but I banged on the door and they let me in anyway.) Ended up missing the first hour of Survivor! I've just noticed how much better I feel each day when I get in my 3 servings and I want to make sure that continues. Good luck in what ever you decide.
