Question:
From what I can gather, my insurance co. requires a Psych eval.
What I want to know is this...I have been seeing a Psychologist for the past year for depression because my husband left me for another woman. Will they allow this Psychologist to write the eval? I have stopped going to her because my insurance only pays for 20 visits a year. I used up 20 last year and 20 this year. If they won't take her eval, I'm wondering if they will pay for another since I've already had 20 psych visits this year? Does anyone know??? — Keri A. (posted on August 1, 2000)

It depends on the insurance you have, and whether the psych eval is
considered part of the pre-op "package". In which case, they may
pay for it, but it may have to be done by the psychologist whom the doctor
has a prior arrangement with. (They like to have all their exams be the
same for their patients.) My doc did offer to let me present a letter from
a psychologist I had recently seen if my insurance wouldn't pay--but they
did, so I had the 4 hour grueling "standard" one he likes his
patients to have. SIGH. Good luck!
