Question:
Is this normal for Ins cos to deny the consult fee?
Just recevied a bill for my surgeon conslt. and ins. did not pay, remark this service is not covered under your benefit. I call them and they told me not to worry they sent this but my case is just now being reveiwed. He still says it is covered if medically needed. Is this how it usually works? They don't pay for the conslt until the okay?? thanks — Cathy B. (posted on July 31, 2000)

My insurance approved and paid 100% for my surgery but never
did pay for the initial consult. They also will not pay for
any post-op care or complications. I have BCBS of AL.

THAT IS ALSO HAPPENING TO ME. I LIVE IN NJ AND HAVE AMERI-HEALTH PERSONAL
CHOICE. THEY DID NOT PAY MY FIRST CONSULT BILL, YET I RECEIVED THE PRE-CERT
FOR THE SURGERY. IT SURE DON'T MAK ANY SENSE. SO MYSELF AND THE SURGEON'S
OFFICE ARE WORKING ON IT. IF THEY DON'T PAY IT I'M GONG TO FILE A WRITTEN
APPEAL AND FIGHT IT. MY SURGERY IS IN 16 DAYS, I DON'T NEED THIS
AGGRAVATION.

I had to have most of my bills resubmitted for review. It seems that the
right hand doesn't pay attention to what the left hand is doing! They'd
come back saying they were not covered because they don't cover obesity
treatment - then I'd remind them that they were directly related to the
surgery they had approved and then they'd get paid. The same thing with
the psych evaluation.

I am going for my intital consultation appointment tommorrow,
and I called my insurance co to see if they covered obesity
treatment and what was covered. What the rep told me was that,
they will cover 100% for the consult, lab fees, ect as
long as I am 100lbs overweight. My PPO is Great West
One Health Plan.
