a thrombus, or blood clot, within a blood vessel
<p>
Normally, a blood clot forms to prevent bleeding but a thrombus is an
abnormal blood clot in the vessel when it is not even punctured
<p>
a thrombus within an artery may eventually grow to block the artery,
preventing blood and oxygen from reaching the organ or tissue being
supplied, such as the heart or brain.
<P>
If it blocks the arteries which go to the heart, it can cause a heart
attack
