Question:
I saw that several people mentioned age as a factor in excess skin-how?
I am 26 and planning on having surgery within the next few months. If you are younger, dont have much excess skin to begin with, will that make a difference? — Julie M. (posted on July 1, 2000)

Julie, please forgive me but I had to laugh at the way you put your
question. Sometimes it's good to find humor in all of this. You said
"I don't have much excess skin to begin with". Hon, none of us
did..it was all filled out by fat! I had no idea how much excess skin
there would actually be.
Now to my real answer. I really DO believe that age has something to do
with whether you have more saggy skin or not. I do not think it's the only
thing though. If you exercise every day, drink alot alot of water,
and...are only in your 20's i really believe that you can get rid of alot
of the saggy skin before it happens. You also didn't say how much you had
to lose. The more to lose, the better your chances are of having that
saggy skin hon...Good luck.

Julie, I don't think age has everything to do with it, although it does
contribute. I was 29 with my VBG. However, I had a stomach that hung
slightly already from my childbirths. When I lost, it was horrible! I was
247# with the first surgery and had lost 126#. I think a large majority
have the "excess skin" if you don't, what a blessing!

Hi,,you are dealing with several factors here.Amount of skin left after
your weight loss depends greatly on how much you have to loose. Then your
age does play a part in it due to younger ages tend to have more elasticity
in their skin and is more viable to reshaping itself to some extent. There
are other things that you can do for yourself that would greatly help which
are daily excercise of course, but a more rigorous isolation excercise to
those more "flabby" areas and drink plenty of water.
