Question:
Should I call?
My patient rep at BTC sent my paper work to BC/BS almost 4 weeks ago. I still do not have an answer, should I call BC? My patient rep thinks I should wait. What do you think? I'm going crazy waiting too hear from them.... — Jason B. (posted on June 19, 2000)

I think you should call and make sure they understand you are waiting for
an answer. Persistence will be one of your best allies through this
process.

I think you should call. I had BCBS and I called after one week to
"check on the status" of my surgeon's request to perform this
surgery. They said I'd already been approved and the forms were in the
mail. I wouldn't want to be a nuisance by calling every day - but go
ahead. Sound helpful, who knows, they may be needing some more
information. Best wishes.

Jason, Hi again...
It wouldn't hurt to make that call... The First one i made to BS... I
didn't get any results...(fyi) BTC only calls to check your status once
evey two weeks. A lot can happen in two weeks. On my second call i got
someone who was will to check things out and she found that i had been
approved two days earlier... I called BTC and told them! I was told by
someone who work at BS that in MI. they have two review boards. one for the
eastside of the state and one for the westside. We happen to go through
the east way higher case load... Thus the wait... Just hang in there... I
know i was ready to have a FIT... at four weeks. Just hang on, you can make
it.

I would call BC/BS and ask for the medical management dept. Then I would
ask to speak with the case manager who is handling your claim. That is
what I did and I got positive results from doing so. Good Luck

No, you should not wait. When I was going through that stage I called my
insurance company every other day. I did not have a problem doing so. When
you do this, it shows the insurance company that you are really invested
and you are not going to take this lightly
