Question:
LOOKING FOR VARIED MEAL PLANS
I DID NOT GET A SET MEAL PLAN FROM MY SURGEON, BUT WOULD LIKE TO SEE HOW OTHER POST-OPS HAVE DONE REGARDING AMOUNTS OF CARBS, PROTEIN, FAT, ETC...AND WHAT THE RESULTS WERE....THANKS — [Anonymous] (posted on May 30, 2000)

If you're anything like me, your tastes will fluctuate frequently and a set
meal plan probably won't be of much use. Once I passed the liquid and puree
parts of my postop diet, and was able to tolerate solid foods, I've
switched frequently. For a few weeks most of my meals were 'krab' salad
with low-fat may, 1 and a half ounces. I'd throw in a little lowfat cottage
cheese or tuna mixed with lowfat mayo. Then I got SICK of krab salad and
started on hard boiled eggs mashed with lowfat mayo. Then I got sick of
hard boiled eggs, and for several weeks I ate nothing but grilled chicken
breast pieces and grilled beef tenderloin pieces, 1 and a half ounces three
times a day. I take alot of supplemental herbs, vitamins and minerals and
protein. Right now I'm varying with this icky tasting liquid protein syrup,
protein tablets (1 gram per tablet) fruit and vegetable supplement
capsules, spirulina capsules, sublingual b-12, garlic and cayenne, and
extra vitamin c. I did get sick of grilled chicken and beef, and now am
eating sushi twice a day, and Trader Joes in my area makes a great roasted,
marinated chicken breast that's fresh and very juicy and flavorful, so I'm
eating a few pieces of that, cold, a day as well. Also coffee with soy milk
in it, and once in a while for a treat some rice pudding that's 140
calories for half a cup. I don't dump on sugar so as long as I keep my
calories at between 600 and 800 a day I let myself have a little treat once
in a while.
