Question:
Has anyone ever gotten approval from this insurance company?
April 2000..I personally, so far, have not had any luck. The doctor sent the first letter and I sent an appeal letter. I received 2 denial letters that look like form letters. They say they do not pay for weight reduction treatment or programs...etc, but that is all either letter stated. I had a problem getting a copy of my Certificate of Insurance. When I requested this information, all they sent me was the Plan Summary Description. I also got the run around when asking for someone in charge. Silly man told me he didn't know who was in charge. Would not even give me the name of his supervisor. 4/28/00 Had a second appeal letter sent from another doctor along with another letter written by me. 5/1/00 Denied for the 3rd time! Still looks like a form letter. — Louise P. (posted on May 30, 2000)

Hi Louise,
I don't have your insurance company. But my insurance company did the very
same thing and I hired Walter Lindstrom, a lawyer out of California, who is
an advocate for this kind of surgery. he has even had the surgery himself.
Believe me it was the best thing I ever did and he will do it for a fixed
rate, which is very reasonable. We had to appeal all the way to the HMO
Task Force state level and WON! So I wouldn't delay. His web site is
www.obesitylaw.com I spent six months with the appeals process on my own
and another six months with him. the last I heard his success rate was in
the 90s%. I wish you luck but don't give up. I hope that this helps.
