Question:
Does anyone else feel that air is trapped and they need to burp but can't?
I'm 5 weeks postop and now that I'm able to eat solid foods, I notice that I get this uncomfortable feeling of air being trapped in my new tummy. It feels like I need to burp but nothing will come up. I'm prety sure I'm eating slow enough and I'm chewing very well, but how can I keep this air from building up? It's soooo uncomfortable! — Tonna (posted on May 10, 2000)

I also had this problem. It will get better. One thing that helped me was
to have someone burp me. Pat me on the back, just like a baby! Sounds
funny, but it helped. Also my surgion said not to talk while I was eating.
Hope this helps.

I have this problem especially when I eat. I ask my doctor and he
suggested Phazym or Gas-X. It works great but is expensive. However, my
doctor said if it worked he would prescribe something. So, ask you doctor
for something for gas.

I am 4 months post op. I started experiencing belching about two weeks
after surgery. I also noticed a difficulty in getting all my liquids in
(felt full). It turns out that I had scar tissue that was restricting the
hole at the bottom of my new stomach (RNY). I have had to have a few
endoscopys over the past couple months to push back the scar tissue. (it
usually takes three treatments to do the trick). I have experienced
immediate improvement after the endoscopy - no belching, no uncomfortable
gassy feeling in my throat. The procedure is painless and just takes about
15 minutes.

burping my self to get it up. right in front of my chest (about where a
necklace would lay) to help it does come up eventually. Hope it helps
