Question:
Could someone tell me what an n.g. tube is?

An NG tube, is the nasal gastric tube. It is inserted up your nose and
down your throat and into the stomach once you are alseep. You never feel
it until you wake up the following surgery and then you feel a slight
pressure in your throat. They usually remove the NG tube about 24 hours
post op.

Joann, some people have complained about their NG tube and I was truly
afraid of having one in but I found it was much ado about nothing in my
case and it never bothered me at all. It was already in place when I woke
up and I had to have it in for 3 days (Mon thru Wed). When they removed it
my doctors told me that I would feel a slight burning sensation but nothing
painful, and they were right. Hope all goes okay with you :-)

Joann, an n.g. tube is a nasal gastric tube, which is inseted into your
nose and goes into your stomach which you will recieve "food"
through.

An NG tube can be used to decompress the stomach (draining the contents) or
for feeding. It can be used for either, depending on the sitution.

An ng tube is short for nasogastric tube. It is a narrow plastic tube that
is inserted thru nose, down throat into stomach. Usually it is used to
help with vomiting, so you do not aspirate. They can also dump nutrition
and hydration down it. It is no fun, but sometimes helps.
