Question:
2 weeks post-op, & having a hard time getting enough protein

Not able to get enough protein, has anyone found a good protein tablet? Bar? I already use Carnation Instant Breakfast and liquid protein, but I am having a hard time making up the rest of my protein with food. Help I do NOT won't to lose my hair!    — Shelly T. (posted on February 3, 2000)

Chicken, eggs, tuna...these are all good sources of protein. Cheese, Milk, yogurt...try these and see if that helps you.

Shelly, I had the same problem right after surgery. I was on all liquids for 6 weeks. Then I put hard boiled eggs, chicken, Tuna, in the food processor and made them into mush so I could swallow it. Not all at the same time of course. LOL I would add some fat free mayo and it worked fine for 3 months till I could eat it better. I would also add a little low fat cheese.

Shelly-please search the database. There have been NUMEROUS recommendations on protein supplements, including those listed in the 'products' section at this site. I know that someone recently recommended HRT (the url is in the database) and they sent me samples of all their protein paks.

Try making my Tuna Dip. In a blender, combine equal parts nonfat yogurt and fat free sour cream (a cup of each is good). Throw in a quarter cup of Mayo and an 8-oz can of tuna. I like a small jalapeno in there too but you can season anyway you like. Blend well, serve with crackers or (when you are eating fresh veggies) baby carrots and celery. Good -- and good enough for company! Good luck.

I couldn't handle any of the protein drinks or red liquid protein from GMC, but GMC carries the Atkins Diet Advantage Bar -- it is basically a sugar/carb free protein bar. It has 250 calories, 18g protein, plus lots of vitamins and minerals, 0g sugars, and total carbs 2g. per bar. This was a nice change. They have lots of flavors, I tried Chocolate Coconut and liked it.
