Question:
Why does the surgery (RNY) bring on a menstrual cycle?
I have read several places that after the surgery, a menstrual cycle is brought on. Why is this? What does that "down there" have to do with your stomache? — Tonna (posted on November 28, 1999)

Its not the kind of surgery that brings it on..its just any type of surgery
can bring it on.

Hi Tonna,
I was told when I had surgery at UCLA last summer that
it is caused becaused of the trauma your body suffers from the surgery.
and that most women start before they ar discharged from the hospital.
Stress is the main factor. I personally did not start. Thank goodness.
Hope this helps.

Being that my cycle is like clockwork. My period started one day post op,
which was 2 weeks and 2 days early (I had not even ovulated. It certainly
was an inconvenience (I bleed so heavy) and using a tampon compromised my
foley. I ended up dislodging the cathether 2 days post op accidentally and
refused to have it reinserted. (sorry to be so graphic)

Mine came on 4 days post-op which for me was weird because I have the
Mirena IUD and barely ever get my period, maybe one day of light spotting.
I think that it has something to do with the anesthetics that are used and
it does something to the cycle. I find that even after a lot of dental
work I get a heavy cycle or one that is early. Just my 2 cents.
