Question:
How much weight should i be expecting to lose each month?

Im now postop but havent been experiencing the weight loss that I thought was common after the RNY. I was expecting to lose 40 lbs the first month and 20 lbs/month for the next 5 months before things started to slow. Im not losing nearly that amount and was wondering if something is wrong with me.    — [Anonymous] (posted on November 7, 1999)

It so much depends on the type of surgery you had. Do you eat any milk or sugar? How much protein supplement are you taking? How much water are you getting? I had a distal gastric bypass, so lost 30 lbs the first month, then 20, then 15, then 10,10, 10, and so on. It tapers down gradually. Or your skin would be a BIG BAG at your feet!

I think the weight loss depends on each individual, how much weight you have to lose and how much protein you are gettin in. I lost 25lbs, the 1st month, then approx 10 per month for about 7-8 months. When I added steady protein supplementation, my loss increased significantly. Good luck

Hi, I lost 44 pounds the first month. The past week I have lost nothing. Today, I have lost a pound so I am sure that the loss is slowing down. I would hate to lose 44 pounds a month, could you imagine the flab if I did. I think it depends on what you eat. If you eat ice creams, fats, etc. the weight will come off slower. Eat all the things your doctor told you and you will do okay. Remember, you still have to watch what you eat. It is a lifestyle change.

Everyone is very different in their weightloss ... depends a great deal to do with how much you had to lose to start with. I lost over 75 lbs in my first few weeks ... but I was severely swollen with edema when I went into the hospital and lost alot of the fluid while in the hospital, I also needed to lose nearly 400 lbs. So Keep your chin up, do precisely what your doc has instructed you, and you'll do great!! Remember too ... the numbers on the scale sometimes mean zip! I measure my weight loss by the size of my clothes, when things start getting too loose I know I am doing everything right! :) Hang in there!
