Question:
Why am I not losing weight this soon after surgery?

Can someone help me and tell me what Im doing wrong? I lost 17 pounds the first 1 1/2 weeks after surgery but for the past week and a half I havent lost anything. Im eating 3 very small meals a day and I even started exercising a couple days ago. I thought with this surgery I wouldnt even need to exercise, at least for the first month or so. Does anyone have any suggestions on what could boost my weight loss? Im eating things like yogurt, pudding, cereal, and protein shakes and eating very little of each.    — [Anonymous] (posted on November 5, 1999)

Hi, I just wanted you to know that is its common to stop for a week or so after loosing 15 to 25 pounds. Every time I loose 15 to 20 lbs It stop for about a week or 2 then starts up again. Dont worry, it will start again I promise. It use to bother me but now I accept it. I have lost 56 lbs in 5 months. It has been slow but also very easy no complications a little vomitting but only when I stuff my self. Some habits are hard to get rid of. But I accept that too. And I dont beat myself up about it either. The wt is going to come off have no fear. Be patient. Just be thankful that there are no complication involved like some wls pts. good luck. juanita

It sounds like you are doing EVERYTHING right. You need to realize that when you exercise you are building muscles which burns fat-which is what you want. But muscle weighs more. DON"T stop exercising! Even though you are not losing on the scale you are probably losing inches and repositioning areas. It is normal to stop losing weight every few weeks, in order for your body "to catch" up. This is a tremendous shock to your body and it is fighting to protect itself. Hang in there, you have no place to go but down. Congradulations!

I am 7 weeks post op and have lost 42 lbs. There was one week when I didn't lose a thing but the next week I lost 8 lbs. I know when I eat more protein than carbs that I lose so much better. Half of your meal should be protein. I walk 3 miles a day and feeling great. I eat two meals a day and eat till I am satisfied. Protein and exercise, no snacking make sure you drink your water. I hope this helps.

are you drinking your water?...also..it sounds like you may be eating too little...increase to 4 or 5 of those small meals..and get your water in...you need to get your metabolism moving...as far as the exercise goes..i was unable to exercise..and still lost well...(194 pounds in 16 mo) even now, all i do is walk a few miles 3 or 4 times a week...good luck de
