Hi, I live in Fremont, Calif. and Yes you can receive state disability
while recovering from wls. I received it twice, once with my original
surgery and when I had to have a revision done 11 months later. Just ask
your surgeon to fill out the form. Good luck to you.

I have been on SSD (social security disability) for nearly 3 years due to
unrelated illness. At the time I applied it was required that someone be
totally disabled for not less than 6 months BEFORE applying and that I
would REMAIN totally disabled for at LEAST 1 year to qualify. When benefits
are approved (if approved) it begins AFTER that 6 month period. In other
words, you have NO benefits for 6 months from the date of disability. My
understanding claims are rarely approved at initial request, generally
requiring at least one appeal. Therefore, I don't believe, (certainly not
an expert), that what you are looking for would materialize for you.

Hi,
I just asked my employer the same question (I'm having surgery 11/10/99)
and we read the California State Disability paperwork together. It stated
that disability
insurance can also be collected for "elective" surgeries also.
So I guess,
in essence, the answer to your question is yes.
Ask your employer to supply you with the forms and the little gray folder
that it
comes in, if they don't have it, email me your address and I will send you
one from
our office. It's the same form, and we have a bunch.
