can you still go out socially and have a few cocktails after surgery??

This is a fun one to answer. I was a never a big drinker mind you but now
I drink 1/2 a wine cooler and I am feeling it or I drink Barcardi L'Mon and
pepsi, I ask for a small glass (maybe a 4 oz glass) because I am really
feeling it after that. I have to start having my social drink after
everyone else has had about 3. After a while I'm sure it changes because I
have seen it with a friend of mine but with me, I am 5 months post op and
it hasn't changed yet. Cheaper that way!!!!!

I'm 9 years post. I am a cheep date and an EASY drunk. The neck of a long
neck beer and I'm skying. ONE HALF a wine cooler and I sugar dump. ONE
drink lasts the whole evening. My hubby and I usually share a drink now.
Kind of more romantic if you ask me. :~)

I had RNY bypass in 1995 and the panniculectomy in 1996. I also
drink socially. I find that it takes only a little bit of a drink
to cause the "familiar buzz" so I take it very easy. I also find
that
the "familiar buzz" is gone much quicker than prior to my
surgery.
Because of these things, I drink much less and take much longer to sip
along
on a drink. I do not like the feeling of being drunk so I am very careful
about alcohol consumption. I drink but do so in a very careful way.

This is one well kept secret of WLS. Maybe only RNY though. I wish the Doc
would answer this one. It takes about 1/2 ounce of alcohol to feel
"buzzed" but like one of the previous answers it seems to go away
quickly. I have one or two drinks once a week. It is my social
"treat"......

You can drink post op..but ..be carefull..one SMALL drink can get you
extremely buzzed! It goes away quick though...I was totally unable to drink
anything till I was about 6 or 7 months post op..I am about 2 years now,
and i can have an after dinner drink...I havent tried beer..just because I
personally dont like it..but, I've seen others handle it ok..like I said
though, it affects you a lot different post op. I used to hate wine..now a
glass of merlot will ususlly do me for a social gathering..and the buzz I
feel from it is usally minimal for some reason

I had my first margarita since surgery last weekend, and it
put me on my butte. Then I dumped because of the sugar. So I
wouldn't say you would be having "a few cocktails". Maybe
one, or more likely a few sips of one.
