Question:
Are artificial sweeteners as hard on the system as regular sugar?

I used to be sensitive to Equal (nutrasweet, aspartame) but once I lost the sleep apnea, I am fine with it. I use Sugarlike, Sweet 'n Low, Splenda, Natra Taste, Sweet One, Sunette--all of these are fine. I must be VERY careful with the sugar alcohols: sorbitol, manitol, maltitol--GAS! OW!

I prefer artificial sweetner (blue packs)over sugar. I use them frequently and have no problem with them at all. Sometimes, (not all the time) excess sugar causes me to experience "Dumping". I have also used different kinds of sweetners, I just prefer the ones in the blue package.

Artificial sweetners are filled with chemicals which I can't imagine being good for anyone. I personally use an herbal sweetner called Stevia. You can get it in powder form and even in small packets (half a packet is enough to sweeten my herbal tea) I used it 3 days post-op and had no problems!

Artificial sweetners have chemicals so I use a natural herb sweetner called Stevia which can be purchased at a health food store. They come in small packets or bulk. I use half a packet in my herbal tea or on my cereal. It tastes great and I know that its a natural alternative to sugar.

stevia not only comes in single pack, and loose for cooking, but also comes in liquid form. Another product made from sugar is Splenda. I would think either one would be a good alternative to artificial sweetners.

I strongly suggest Stevia. Its totally natural and is actually good for the pancreas. As far as I know Splenda is fine. Aspartame (nutrasweet) is highly toxic with many latent side affects. See www.dorway.org for the full truth.

I have also had a hard time with artifical sweetners, in fact I cannot have most of the Crystal Light products because they are too sweet for me. I have been able to tolerate the ruby red grapefruit and the walmart brand of strawberry. Other than that SF tang is the only other SF item I can drink. Good luck!

I have to say being 1 year Post-Op that all the things that I have tried that the only one that seems to agree with me is Splenda.I purchased some Sparkling Rasberry Dring from KMart last week that was flavored with Asperitame.Well what followed was not nice.Leg cramps stomach cramps and you know what followed.Well if anyone can tollerate this stuff then more power to you,but my experiance with it was not exceptable. Good Luck to everyone on your journey.
