Hi Linda,
I was taking regular Ferrous Sulfate pills but after reading a post from
Delores on the main board, I started taking carbonyl Iron which absorbs so
much better than Sulfate. I have been taking it since Thursday and I
already feel more enegerized, we are supposed to take it with Vitamin C so
it will absorb even better. Hope this helps I purchased mine at CVS for
5.99 for a bottle of 200. I am also doubling up on mine until my levels get
back to normal so about 3 weeks. Hope this helps.

If you already have a problem, you might want to check out the Iron offered
by the Vitalady.. Espeically made for 'distal' patients or those suffering
from Anemia.

I take Walgreens brand ferrous gluconate which is the type of iron my
dietician and surgeon recommended.

I tried everything, ferrous sulfate, ferrous fulmate, prenatal, liquid iron
(yuck!) and Chromagen (Prescription iron) My iron level kept falling and
falling until I was severely anemic. I finally asked my PCP about taking
Procrit and he referred me to hematology. I received 3 infusions of Iron
and my iron level is great right now. I will probably have to had the
infusions repeated about once a year.
The hematologist explained that iron is absorbed in the first 6 inches of
the small intestine which is bypassed if you had RNY. So no matter how
much Iron I took, I wasn't absorbing it. My dr. said that this is a common
side affect with Gastric Bypass Surgery.
Don't mess around with anemia. Insist that you go to hematology and get it
taken care of as soon as possible.
Good luck.
