I had surgery this week and I had terrible pain in my rib cage on my left
side. I had a RNY and my gallbladder removed. As of today, the pain in my
ribs is mostly gone. I believe it was mostly still the gas pains from the
surgery. Maybe you have a gas bubble that is lodged. Perhaps some walking
would work it loose. Good foods to puree are vegetable soup, potato soup,
pinto beans (you can actually just mash them and add a little juice),
scrambled eggs with cheese, yogurt, etc. I wish you the best of luck.

Hi. I had my RNY on 2/7. I still have some minor rib pain on the left.
My surgeon said that they have to manipulate the ribs quite a bit to get to
the surgical site. On occassion, it feels really weird!!!

Some discomfort on the left side is normal. When you have the surgery they
do a lot of manipulating along the left side to re-arange the new lower
intestin configuration. Also, It's where they sevure the lower half of you
stomach which is where the drain tube connects. It's really normal to feel
some discomfort. Once the tube is removed, the discomfort vanishies almost
immediately.
