Question:
WHY AM I ITCHING?!!?!?!? PLEASE HELP!!!
Hi all!! Please if there is somebody out there that can help me, I would really, REALLY appreciate it! I just had a brachioplasty, breast lift w/implants and revision to my tummy tuck on Jan. 5th. After about a week, it started itching at the incision site, and then my whole upper body started itching everywhere. I saw my doctor and she stopped all medication and prescribed decadron dose pack. I took that, along with benedryl. That didn't help one week later, then I started benedryl creams, then cortizone, then lotions, then I stopped everything all together and I am still itching. I went back to the doc and she can't figure it out. She said I'm allergic to something but she doesn't know what and I am going nuts!!!!!!!!! My body looks like a war zone I have claw marks everywhere., I can't sleep and I haven't given my arms a chance to heal because I'm itching all day and night! Has anyone experienced this? Please, please help me. — Samar M. (posted on January 22, 2005)

Maybe you just have very dry skin. Living here in the desert, the skin
drys out bad. I have been using the Ole of Olay moisturer wash for very
dry skin, and then the shower body mositurer that you use right in the
shower, I use a puff to wash, so that the dry skin is removed, and then
after I dry off I put a healing mositurer lotion all over my body. It has
helped me so much. Now itching at the incision sites happens because of
the skin tissure adhering together. You have thousands of little nerve
endings that need to heal. Hope this helps, and I hope you find what works
for you.

Has your Dr checked your liver enzymes? Sometimes an irritated liver can
cause itching.

You are not alone. I had a LBL and lipo on 11/1/04 and still have severe
itching. Mine is mainly the skin in the lipo areas but I have tried
everything from oral allergy agents, perscriptions and every cream out
there. Nothing helps. There are days I cry from the icth. PS said my skin
is very healthy and moist but the swelling (oh yes I still swell alot) and
itch are related. I hope we both can stop! Nice to know we are not alone.

Don't take this wrong, but a number of years ago, my child brought home
scabies from nursery school. Months after it was gone (the creams did not
work, I had to take Ivermectine), I still itched. The dermotoligist
determined that my itching and scratching was causing me to just do more.
Trust me, I feel for you.

Have you tried taking anti itch medication, like benedryl or something. My
sister just had surgery and we bought her the sugerless kind. Once she took
it, she stopped itching after about 15 minutes. Good Luck to you both!!!

Sounds like me after my tummy tuck. Turned out I had an allergic reaction
to the steri strips they used after removing my staples. Benadryl and
cortizone cream did wonders for me. Try not to itch, it always made it
worse for me. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon.

Are you on pain meds? Vicodin makes me itch like crazy! Also, start
taking Vitamin E (natural, not synthetic). It will help moisturize from
inside your body.
