Question:
Is there anyone who has lost part of their pancreas and is on enzymes?
I only have 5% of my pancreas due to pancreatitis 5 years ago. I take enzymes to help digest my food. Is there anyone in the same boat who has had surgery? Are you having success with the surgery? — learobs (posted on December 13, 2004)

I only have 1/4 of my pancreas due to pancreatitis and a gall bladder
removal in '91. I do not take any meds like you tho. I had open RNY on
5/7/03 and am doing fine.

I had acute necrotizing pancreatitis 4 years ago - you can read my profile
about that. I don't have much pancreas left (had 12 surgeries because of
staph, etc.).

I had lap RNY about 2 1/2 years ago. It was totally successful, just a
little long with all of the scar tissue. The only thing I have a little bit
of a problem with is reactive hypoglycemia. I was on Pancreas for a while,
but it didn't do anything for me. I am sure you have a great
endochrinologist after going through pancreatitis... make sure you keep
him/her on board through this process. My endo has been wonderful, and an
important part of my success.

Lea, I will be having RNY on 1/25 and was so glad to see someone who I can
relate to. I had acute pancreatitis due to a gall bladder that needed to
come out.Had biliary bypass surgery as a result.I have no pancreatic
exocrine function and also take enzymes. My GI doc says we will have to use
trial and error to see how much I will need post op.I would be glad to stay
in touch and compare experience with you. E-mail is [email protected] if
you want to discuss it further. Good luck and God Bless, Michele
