I don't know...that really is scary. I know what I would do, but I cannot
give you that advice. I pray that God will show you the right decision for
you. God Bless you and I pray everything works out for you.

You need to have a meeting with your surgeon and OB together to discuss
this.

In both times that I have heard about this happening (here on this site,
not personally) the outcome was very good. Both moms and babies were
healthy. I'm sure they were constantly monitored as you should be, but you
have a good chance of having a healthy baby. Good luck!

Yes, it happened to one of our members on the Grad list. His wife had WLS,
and a few weeks later, they found out that she had been a couple of weeks
pregnant during surgery. Mom and baby did great, and their daughter is
probably about a year old now. Just stay in close contact with your OB/GYN
and surgeon. Vitamins are extremely important, esoecially now, when you
can't eat much. Good luck, sweetie, and congratulations!

The hospital and surgeon should be SHOT and sued, and I'm not one to sue
anyone. This occurring is total incompetency and malpractice in my
opinion. My WL surgeon and PS will not do any surgery without a blood
serum pregnancy test, unless your tubes are tied. I had been on Depo shots
for 9 years, and not sexually active for years, when I had my WLS and they
still insisted on the blood test.

I'm sorry these professionals have failed you and you find
yourself in this situation. While it is far from an ideal situation, from
what I have read over the past 2 years, it is possible for you and the baby
to come through fine. You may not realize as much total weight loss due to
the pregnancy, but it also may not have too much impact. Work closely with
a high risk OB/GYN and your WL surgeon. Good Luck and I'll keep you and
your little one in my thoughts and prayers.

For those that want to blame the dr., the hospital or the lab: Blood levels
of the hormone HCG are only detectable 1-2 days after implantation, not
fertilization. Implantation takes place about 10 days after ovulation. If
the OP and hubby had sex around the day of ovulation and became pregnant
and she had surgery anytime within 10 days or so, the blood test would come
back negative because HCG is not present at that time.

These situations are very hard to predict, because for most MO women
ovulation is hit or miss.

Sonya, I really do wish you the best of luck, assigning blame is rather
pointless. You are pregnant and you are newly post-op, not the most ideal
situation, but do you really need the stress and anxiety of fighting with
your dr and the hospital on top of it?

Well congrats to you. I got pregnant 6 weeks after my Wls and it was by far
the easiest pregnancy I had. I was 13 weeks along when I found out I was
pregnant and had lost 80lbs. During my pregnancy I gained 22lbs and I lost
that 2 weeks after giving birth. My daughter is a healthy 6 month old and
my weight loss has continued and I am now down to 149lbs and working
towards my goal of 130lbs. If you have and questions or just want to chat
email me at [email protected]
