I have been wondering the same thing myself. I know medicare does require 18 consecutive months. They must be documented from you DR. not a nurse or arnp!

Hey, I have medicare and medicaid. I had the medicaid first, Keystone Mercy through the public welfare system. All that you have to do is go to your local office and apply for the medical coverage. It works out really well for me because they pick up anything that medicare won't pay for, they even pay the cost of medicare A & B coverage, so that doesnot cost me anything. There probably is an income limit to qualify. And when I started the process of getting my surgery, medicare is my primary insurer with keystone mercy being my secondary, since medicare won't precertify, they submitted it to keystone mercy for approval. I was approved in 2 days. But I couldn't get it submitted until after I had my consult and went through my psych eval and nutrition appt. But I didn't have a problem at all. I gave them my weight loss/gain history (I made a chart and went back as far in my life as I could remember), I also provided a family history of obesity and health problems (another chart...lol), and then whatever my doc sent in with it. If you want to see my charts just let me know. well I hope this helped some. Lisa lap/rny 10-23-03 340/181/??? -159lbs

I have medicare only. I do not qualify for medicaid due to the amount of money I get each month. The way you can find out is to call your local medicaid office and ask them about sending you info on different options they provide because of your income. They will ask you questions and tell you what they recommend you do. There is something called QMB and that is where they will wave I believe your hospital and dr visit deductibles. I have to pay the hospital after I had wls $876 plus 20% of all the tests I had done. The new year coming in the deductibles will be higher for part B. Hope I have helped.
