It is a waste of time and money. If diet drugs worked, then there
wouldn't have been 60,000 people getting WLS in 2002, 100,000 people
getting WLS in 2003 and 150,000 getting WLS in 2004...JR

Usually these drugs are a waste of money. I bought a certain kind pre op
and they never helped. However as a post op they have helped. I'll have to
start them again. It's just that I don't like drugs of any kind so I don't
take them often.

In feb, I got really frustrated because I was not losing and in fact I was
staying at the high end of my weight range. I got a prescription for
Phentermine. It is an appetite suppressant and it also does raise your
blood pressure, so you have to watch it. Unfortunately I found that even
though it did help me lose back down to my lower end range (a loss of about
12 lbs) it did not work well as a suppressant because it would not stay in
my system long enough to suppess my appetite in the evenings and if I took
it too late at night it would keep me awake. I suppose that some of the
over the counter diet drugs that work on the same principle would have the
same type of effects. Now the script I got was for the 30mg tablets. If I
were to ever try it again I would ask the dr for the 15mg tablets and try
them again in the evenings which is when I encounter my snacking habits.
No matter how hard I tried, I could not get below my lowest weight (247),
so I got discouraged and gave up on the pills. I am still struggling going
up & down and never lower than 253 when I am not taking the pills. (PS
I did start this journey at 368 so even 253 is much better than where I was
ove 2 years ago)

Amy, please try to take this the right way, as its meant with love here,
you are the one who also stated you were not getting in all your protein
and questioned the importance of exercise in previous questions. Sweetie,
if you have a consistent cardio workout (3-4 times a week), and got in all
your daily protien (substituting protein for any white carbs and cutting
out or down on sugar), and drinking a ton of water, you will not have to
look at diet drugs. Most of those over the counter pills have stuff in
them that can and have killed some by speeding up heart beats etc. 91
pounds in 9 months is good. The loss does slow down the further out you
get but you can help it continue by doing the above...
