Question:
I'm having my gallbladder removed in one week and I am terrified. I came through

Gastric Bypass surgery with flying colors and wasn't scared at all. Now I am so scared!!I don't know why. I know I have to have the surgery because the pain is so bad. I would love to hear from someone who had their gallbladder out recently and is about a year out. Thanks, Angela    — Angela J. (posted on February 25, 2004)

I was 2 years out when I had my gallbladder removed in November. It was a very easy surgery. I felt crappy the first day but by day 3 I was out shopping and felt fine. I had no complications from the surgery and was home by 5 that evening.

Four days before I was to have my gallbladder out, there was a bulge close to my belly button. When I went to the hospital for surgery I told the doctor about it. So I had my gallbladder out and a hernia repair at the same time. I had 24 staples, but it was no big deal. You will be fine! Sapala-Wood Micropouch 12/12/02 – 213/132/125.

HEY! Angela...I had my gallbladder out in November of 2003. It was a piece of cake! When I first woke up, I didnt feel so good, but after a pain shot and a few hours of sleep...I felt 100% better! I was also up and walking around by myself that day. You'll do fine!

I have my Lap RNY 22 months ago (April 2002), no problem during the procedure, and my gallbladder out May 2003, lap, by the same awesome surgeon. No problem then, either - very little pain, and back to work in a few days. Happy as a clam to have that nasty little slimy sucker OUT!

I had my GallBladder removed also and there is absolutely nothing to worry about. The recovery time is 10 times quicker than the Gastric Bypass Surgery. And you will feel so much better when it's gone. If you still have any questions feel free to e-mail me at [email protected] Kelly

Please don't worry about it! I've had 15 surgeries in my life. WLS was about the third most painful (Open RNY) for me. In March 2002 (about 10 months after WLS) by gallbladder had to come out. I also needed surgery on my left rotator cuff. Luckly I was able to get BOTH surgeons together at THE SAME OPERATION. My left shoulder was EXTREMELY painful. I had a morpine pump that I tried three times. It stopped the shoulder pain but made me feel spacy. I decided to just use ice packs on the shoulder and NO PAIN MEDICINE. Why do I tell you this? Because I had ice to help the pain in my shoulder but NOTHING to help the pain from the gallbladder surgery! Heck, I did'nt have any noticable pain from the gallbladder surgery! :) Perhaps if the shoulder had'nt hurt so bad I'd notice it... I don't know. But again, I'm a vetern of surgeries and the gallbladder was one of the TWO EASIEST surgeries I've had.I kid you not! Walk in the park compared to wls.:)

There is really nothing to worry about as far as the surgery goes. I had my gall bladder removed in June of 2001, I was 7 months pregnant. The recovery went well, but even now, 2 years later, I am still having issues with it. Certain foods I can not eat due to my lack of a glall bladder. But one you get that under control, It is fine! Good luck, Ill be thinking of you!

Angela, I had to have my gall bladder taken out 2 WEEKS after my WLS. I was terrified. I figured that since I didn't die from WLS, this was going to do it! But it was such an easy surgery. Even though I had it right after the WLS. I went home the next day. Don't worry. You'll be fine!

I wouldn't worry about it at all - I've had my Gallbladder removed and it was nothing and I waiting on my gastric bypass and that I am terrified over..... Gallbladder removal seems like nothing compared to gastric bypass - so if you can do that - then you csn do this.... God Bless

I'm one year out from WLS and I have had two previous surgeries. All went fine and I recovered with flying colors too, but just before xmas I started having terrible stomach pain and attaks. My doctor finally said I needed to have my gall bladder out. I was scared because all my previous surgeries went fine and now I thought my luck is going to run out. Was this going to be the time I have complications? Well I had my gall bladder taken out laproscopicly and in fact it was the easiest of all the surgies I have had. I was back to work in 3 weeks and rideing carnival rides in 4 weeks. good luck. You'll do ok!

Don't be scared! I had mine taken out about 2 1/2 weeks ago. I am actually 2 years out. I starting have gallbladder pain about 2 months ago and it progressing worse. I was SO glad that I had it taken out. The recovery is not bad. Just take it slow and easy! One thing I did notice, was that it takes a while to feel like you can eat normal (or what we call normal) so don't worry.
