Question:
Can anyone refer me to any literature on enlarged anastamosis?

I had RNY June 01. After 8 endoscopies, 2 upper GI's I had revision June 03. Doc supposedly removed an ulcer at that anastamosis, made my pouch smaller, and removed a hernia. Since then, I have gain 40 lbs and climbing as if I have never ever had the original surgery. I was told my two other docs that it is possible that the surgeon made the anastomosis to large causing food to collect in it and my intestine thus acting as a stomach, much like it does in Cancer patients that have their stomach removed completely. I have complained to my surgeon and will see him Monday. I want him to fix it. I did not take this journey only to regain. Diets do not work, I am doing all I can, including diet pills to keep the gaining under control and nothing works, hence the reason I had the original surgery. Please help.    — Cheryl C. I doubt you will find anything. I had my rny surgery 2000 and found out I had 'this' problem in april 2001. There was nothing.. Finally the Bariatric Association wrote me and told me surgeons had know about my problem for years, failed to fix it and revert their patients to diet and excercise if it happens. Fixing the stoma isnt easy and MOST surgeons will not touch it. My surgeon, to fix this, put the lap band on me. It is working! I may be the first in this country; but the band people said the band can be used to fix wls. Anyways; if your surgeon refuses or cant fix you; the band is an option. I would see an experience one. NOT all band surgeons are open minded my first band doctor told me it couldnt be done; my current surgeon said it would be a challenge but doeable.. And he was right. I did have to have it done 'open' to cause I had adesions from the RNY. but after the 'fill' its working just fine. I have the food restrictions I was suppose to have had with the RNY. Good luck. I know yours was caused a little different than mine was; but the outcome is the same ... no pouch function...
