Question:
I'm sorry to beat this topic to death, but I'm desperate hairloss

I am almost three years post op RNY. I started losing my hair again about 7 months ago. (drastically losing it) I immediately started using all of the over the counter protein packs and uping my protein intake. NOTHING HELPED! I went to a dermatoloist that specializes in hair loss and she just told me to take Biotin. I have been taking Biotin since then twice a day. I have also purchases the Nioxin shampoo and treatment kit, I almost feel like that made it worse. I read a post on hear saying "not to use Nioxin because it will make your hair fall out if you stop using it" I'm at my wits end and will need to be shopping for a wig real soon.. Everytime I go to the doc they test my blood and nothing is wrong (even though I have about the energy level of a 90 year old woman) If you PLEASE have any suggestions on hair care products that I should use or stay away from I would REALLY appreciate it. Thank you so much!    — Kristina P. (posted on February 5, 2004)

Buy a wig. That's what i am shopping for right now. i am one year out and my hair is falling out by the handfuls. I have bald spots on the sides of my head. i am tired of fighting it and it is very embarrassing. They have some very nice wigs at www.paulayoung.com at about one third what retail shops charge for the exact same wig.

You poor thing! I'm surprised that people continue to lose their hair so long post-op. I thought it was only suppose to be from 3-4 months post op and then stop at around 10 months from there.?!? Shows what I know. I use Nioxin but couldn't tell a difference until I used the highest level of Zinc daily. I noticed after having it in my system for about a month that my hair has almost completely stopped falling out. Worth a shot. Good luck.

Make them do a thorough check of your thyroid hormones. My hair fell out by the hands full when I had overactive thyroid, then after they FINALLY discovered the problem (they had to do an uptake test whatever that is) I had radioactive iodine and it pretty much destroyed my thyroid completely. Then the hair that had just started to grow back fell out again and if I get under-medicated with my thyroid hormone replacement, my energy level drops to zeor and all I want to do is sleep. I had problems for ten years and they were unable to diagnose my problem with a blood test. My sister had the same problem. They kept telling her she was normal until she insisted that they run the same test on her. Yep, she was way out of whack too.

I think Linda hit it on the head. Lack of energy, hair loss . . . do you by any chance have dry skin too? Some or all of those things might point to thyroid problems.<P>Plus, lack of energy won't be cured by any hair care product. Get a second opinion, if your doc can't figure out what to do. I assume your labwork was fine (protein, iron, B-12, etc.)?

Kristina last night I was talking with my friend who,s mother has been sick and has been having a hair lost. Her doctor recommended that she sleeps on satin pillowcases (not cotton or flannel ). It makes sense to me as your hair will be more slipper on satin which will not be pulling on your hair as you turn your head.I sure would give it a try.

I take noni juice that has helped me. Its an herbal medicine that you can get at a health store. Best to get 100% noni juice. It also lowers colestrol, highblood pressure and etc. If you want to read more on it go to www.nonijuice4u2000.com Thanks, Loretta
